Gaming performance is simply stunning, and if all you use your pc for is gaming this this is a very good monitor to use. For a pure gaming experience it offers fantastic value for money and I doubt you'd get better for the price. I'm really torn on the M27Q as there are several very good qualities and a few poor ones. The Asus performance was better in both areas. There was IPS glow as well but I didn't notice any backlight bleed.
The overdrive needs to be set to Picture Quality mode as any of the others introduce significant overshooting.ĭark room performance isn't great as blacks appear grey, but this is typical of IPS panels due to low contrast. For a pure gaming performance this is a truly excellent monitor. There was no overshoot, no ghosting and superb image quality overall. Imagine butter crossed with WD40 and you still wouldn't have something as slick and smooth as what the M27Q can accomplish. I booted up Doom 2016 as I wanted to check both motion blur and performance with dark images on the screen. Gaming performance is where the M27Q really shines. The M27Q isn't certified as G-Sync compatible, however once Freesync was enabled I was able to get G-Sync to work in the Nvidia control panel.
Overall the picture quality is a solid 7.5/10, I'd rate the Asus at a 9/10 for image as a comparison.Ĭonnectivity is very good with DP, HDMI and USB inputs, I haven't used the KVM so can't comment on how well it works, but it's there. As much as I tried I wasn't able to recreate the paper like texture and balanced colours of the Asus even when placing the monitors next to each other and playing around with the picture settings. The white balance is cold but can easily be adjusted. Out of the box colour is acceptable, but can be improved by calibrating. Using ClearType didn't resolve the issue but increasing the sharpness in the display setting did a little, however this introduced artifacts on static images. The M27Q felt somewhat fuzzy in comparison. This was highlighted when I put the two monitors side by side (Haven't posted the Asus back yet) and opened Chrome. Well, it wasn't that bad, but it's noticeable and once you've seen it you'll notice every time.
I knew of the BGR subpixel layout before I bought it and how this can impact sharpness, especially on text, but I thought to myself it can't be that bad surely. So, first impressions after turning it on were ok, but not mind blowing. I won't make this super long, but I wanted to share my impressions on going from what can be considered a more premium monitor to a budget one. Amazon have actually agreed to a full refund despite the time I've had it so that's why in the market for a new screen. I've been using an Asus PG279Q for about a year and a half now, but have been having some technical difficulties that I'm having a hard time resolving.
